Correlation of stress coping, social support and motivation for change of alcoholics

Abstract
This study has the purpose to examine the motivation level for change of alcoholics and understand the factors influencing the motivation for change and relative influence of the stress coping styles and social support on the motivation for change to provide basic data for mental health services. For this, a self-report questionnaire was conducted on alcoholics in alcohol addiction specialized hospitals and clinics Iocated in Seoul and Kyeongin area for one month from May, 2011 and the results of the research are as following. First, the motivation level for change of alcoholics was shown a little higher than the middle. Second, as a result of hierarchical regression analysis, it was confirmed that the sex and the initial admission time were the factors to influence the motivation for change, Third, as emotion focused coping and family support of alcoholics are high, the motivation for change was high. Based on these results, the practical implications were discussed to raise the motivation for change of alcoholics.
